October 30, 2007 -- The Port Authority won't stray from its controversial plan to boot hundreds of feral cats from the grounds of Kennedy Airport - even after meeting with animal advocates yesterday. "We reiterated that airports that serve 50 million people are not an appropriate place for large wild cat colonies. It's a safety hazard and a health hazard," said PA spokesman Pasquale DiFulco. Dozens of activists who demonstrated outside the PA's Union Square office yesterday are worried that the cats will be exterminated and said that the agency's plan won't work. "An outside trapper will never succeed in trapping even close to 70 percent of them," said Meredith Weiss, of the NYC Feral Cat Initiative, which wants the animals trapped, neutered and returned to JFK.
